If anyone has read the fantastic novel 1984, they will know what big brother is all about. It should be a study in human behaviour, and this means all people, not just the Barbie and Ken dolls. The phrase "big brother is watching" does not apply when you know what to expect, and all you are doing is trying to elevate yourself to some sort of celebrity b grade status. The idea is that this "big brother" has control over you and that you cannot do anything about it. That is what we want to see. Initialy this concept was kinda cool, but now it has just been turned into an attempt to create a shag fest between young and monumentally stupid individuals. The reason I support this petition is that Michael is actually a smart guy and he decided to try to get some sort of reality (through lies and deciept) into the show. In real life when no-one knows people are watching, this is what happens. Not people crying when someone hurts thier precious feelings. Now on to Gretel Kileen. Previous to big brother, Gretel was a well respected and funny comedian. And quite witty, and when she first started the show, this is what I expected to see. But it soon came to light that she could not host a live show and is constantly interupting the flow with mistakes and very unintelligent comments made to anyone she ever interviews. Gretel tries to act like a mother to her favourite housemates and a bitch to the ones she does not like. And generally, her favourites include the people that are all nice a smiles. No real personality, basically the ones she can have a nice little interview with and get the goss of. Especially women....The same concept applies to womens magazines. Yet when ever someone shows something resembling real human nature like Glenn being a typical country rooter, and Merlin having a strong opinion and Michael actually identifying that Big Brother edits footage. Gretel will jump down them for being themselves and revealing real human nature. Because hey, Big Brothers little teenage fans who do most of the voting don't want to see real life, but people behaving like little angels and making out and the likes. And they simply do not wan't people to know that Big Brother is in fact not so much influencing the housemates, but trying to manipulate the viewers by trying to teach them how to live, and more importantly getting them to pay to vote. Last but not least. The show in general. This is the fundamental flaw behind big brother, it has become an attempt to make a whole lotta money by people paying to vote and paying for access to footage via the website. This is a process that could be free!! Just create a website that allows people to vote. In summation, it is time for Big Brother to change its attitude about what they are doing to our society by showing only a certain facet of it. Make Big Brother what it has the potential to be, and it all starts with the eviction of Gretel Kileen. |
